KLM uk is Britain's third largest scheduled airline, and carries around 5+ million passengers a year.
In a refocus of the airlines operations, KLM UK's main operations are now to fly passengers from 15
UK airports to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
UK airports served are Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol
(KLM cityhopper), Cardiff (KLM cityhopper), Edinburgh, Glasgow, Humberside, Leeds/Bradford,
London City, London Heathrow (KLM), London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and Teeside.
Routes such as Glasgow - London Stansted have been dropped in favour of increased frequencies on
flights to Amsterdam. KLM uk is the largest foreign user of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
Air UK was established in 1980 as a result of a merge of a number of regional airlines: Air Anglia,
BIA, Air West and Air Wales. The airline was originally owned by British
Air Transport Holdings but KLM's formal interest in the carrier was seen in 1987 when it took a 14.9% stake in the airline.
This figure increased to 45% in 1995 and in July 1997 full ownership took place. Air UK was rebranded
as KLM UK in 1998 with a brand advertising campaign launched in early 1999. KLM uk is the largest carrier to operate out of London Stansted since the opening of the airport's new terminal in 1991.

spring of 2000.
Currently KLM buzz airline operates to a number of European destinations from its London Stansted base,
and unlike other low-fares airlines, buzz operates into major city airports. The route network
consists of Berlin, Bordeaux, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gerona, Helsinki, Jerez, La Rochelle,
Lyon, Marseille, Milan, Montpellier, Murcia, Paris, Poitiers, Toulouse and Vienna.
The airline also operates winter services to Chamberry and Geneva. All buzz aircraft are operated by
KLM uk in buzz colours,
but use 'UK' flight numbers. buzz aircraft are
painted in an eye-catching scheme consisting of a yellow fuselage, purple engines and a
tail consisting of a sunflower shape. buzz carried its one millionth passenger on
November 24, 2000.

SELECT FARES
Passengers who choose a Select Fare, profit from flexible booking conditions and an extensive
range of "KLM Europe Select" services on board and on the ground.
Select Fare passengers will
be offered comfortable and efficient ground handling procedures. They will have access to
separate check-in desks, as well as special fast-lane service during boarding. They will have
free access to KLM lounges and a range of additional services, including fast-lane service at
passport control and valet parking at the departure hall (at a cost, but with a 10% discount on
regular fees charged at Schiphol Airport). These and other facilities will be available at
KLM's home page, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. KLM will strive to introduce a similar level of
service at other European airports, wherever possible.
The in-flight service offered in KLM Europe Select will be almost identical to that currently
offered in Business Class, including a wide range of beverages, meals and other facilities.
The seats will, however, be slightly narrower, with rows of six abreast instead of five, but
the legroom will stay the same (33 inches). As of June 1, KLM will begin introducing this new
seat configuration aboard its Boeing 737-300s and 400s.

Economy Fares and Base Fares
Passengers who require fewer booking options and less service, can opt for an Economy Fare or
Base Fare with "KLM Economy" service on board and on the ground. KLM will offer a limited number of seats at discount prices. Passengers should book in advance to obtain the best fares. Some of these fares will have restrictions attached.
The KLM Economy Fares are slightly more expensive, but offer more flexible conditions. Flights may be cancelled or rebooked at a cost.
KLM will serve coffee, tea or soft drinks on board, as well as a sandwich or meal box (depending on the duration of the flight). Passengers in KLM Economy will no longer be served alcoholic beverages, nor will they be offered a choice of newspapers.
KLM Europe Select Service from the UK
Although Base, Economy and Select Fares will be offered from all 14 UK departure airports,
'KLM Europe Select' on-board service will only be available on flights from London Heathrow to Amsterdam served by
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Separate check-in facilities will also be limited to Heathrow. Lounge access will however be available to Select Fare passengers at all UK airports and these passengers will naturally be accommodated in
'KLM Europe Select' class on
KLM operated European flights beyond Amsterdam. They will additionally be able to make use of
lounges and other on the ground facilities at Schiphol and other airports where available.
All passengers travelling from the UK to Holland on KLM cityhopper operated flights will continue to receive an on-board service including catering, a bar service and newspapers, regardless of fare type.
Whatever the routing and fare, passengers will continue to profit from KLM's qualities and services
as a network carrier. This includes access to a global network, flights to primary airports, and
service recovery in the event of unforeseen circumstances, such as flight cancellations.
KLM's amenities for passenger comfort on future Boeing 777 Fleet
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines introduces major enhancements to passenger comforts and amenities on its intercontinental fleet of Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. KLM will install so-called 'lie-flat' seats, which recline to a horizontal position in its World Business Class cabins. The seats will be provided with a socket for laptop computers. Furthermore, all the seats on board the new fleet will be equipped with an interactive audio-video system, providing both World Business Class and Economy Class passengers with individual screens and control panels. The enhanced amenities are yet another step towards greater comfort and convenience for KLM passengers.
Paul Gregorowitsch, executive vice president heading KLM's Commercial Organization, commented, "The Boeing 777 has already earned substantial appreciation from passengers with its spacious cabin. The cabin gives passengers a feeling of spaciousness, with more room to stand and walk about, and more Stowage space for carry-ons. Along with the new lie-flat' seats in World Business Class and entertainment system in both classes,
we will be setting new standards for passenger comfort on long-haul flights."
The new World Business Class seats
The new 'lie-flat' seats recline to a comfortable, practically horizontal position at the press of a button, providing passengers with a 190 centimeter long sleeping surface. The seats are equipped with a lumbar support providing a massage effect on the lower back, an integrated 10.4 inch video screen with a
separate control panel, a socket for laptop computers, a satellite telephone, adjustable headrest, and reading lamp. The new seats are supplied by the Japanese-based Koito company, a major supplier
of aircraft seating with a wide product range. Sinot Design Associates from Laren, the Netherlands,
has adapted the basic Koito-design to KLM's design standards.
Enhanced Economy Class Seating
KLM's Boeing 777 Economy Class will be equipped with wider seats providing greater passenger comfort.
The spacious cabin of the aircraft makes it possible to install wider seating in Economy Class.
Economy Class passengers will each have their own individual video screen and control panel,
and a satellite telephone. The 6.5 inch screen will be integrated into the back of each seat, and the
control panel and telephone in the armrests. In every further respect, the seats will meet the same specifications as KLM's current intercontinental Economy Class seating.
New inflight entertainment system
The new system provides a multi-lingual selection of feature films, music channels, computer games and inflight information. Since the system is fully interactive, passengers can decide for themselves when they wish
to start up a specific film or listen to a specific audio program. KLM is now developing a new range of
programs utilizing every facet offered by this interactive system. The audio-video system will be
supplied by Japan-based Matsushita Avionics Systems Corporation, market leader in inflight entertainment systems.

Northwest Airlines Announcews New Livery
Northwest Airlines introduced its first new aircraft paint scheme since 1989 at its Minneapolis/St. Paul, Detroit and Memphis hubs. The new livery was presented on three different aircraft types, a Boeing 747-400, a Boeing 757-300 and an Airbus A319.
The new design will be phased into the entire Northwest fleet - a total of 436 aircraft - during its regularly scheduled repainting planned over the next five years. A total of 27 new jets delivered in 2003 and up to 50 aircraft currently owned by the airline will be painted in the new livery by the end of this year.
The paint scheme will save Northwest about 20 percent in future painting costs, based on several
factors: fewer primary colors, simpler design and paint process, and greater durability. The airline
made the decision to continue with the project during these difficult economic times because of the number of new jetliners being delivered this year, plus the need to repaint existing aircraft that are due for maintenance and repainting. Had Northwest delayed the new livery it would have forfeited any immediate cost savings.
The livery will allow Northwest to extend paint cycles for individual aircraft from five to six years. A clear coat paint finish makes the livery more durable and dark pigments, which fade faster, have been removed from the fuselage paint scheme. The application process will be five percent less expensive than that currently used. Fewer lines and stripes are involved, requiring less taping and masking. The fuselage paint has been reduced from four colors to one.
Northwest's trademark "red tail," a highly recognizable part of the airline's visual heritage
for decades, remains prominent. With the new livery, the initials "NWA" become more dominant than
the spelled out "Northwest Airlines."
The new design represents several Northwest strengths identified in employee research: its global reach, innovative use of technology, pioneering track record and 76 years of heritage.
Northwest Airlines is the world's fourth largest airline with hubs at Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul,
Memphis, Tokyo and Amsterdam, and approximately 1,500 daily departures. With its travel partners,
Northwest serves nearly 750 cities in almost 120 countries on six continents. In 2002, consumers
from throughout the world recognized Northwest's efforts to make travel easier. A 2002 J.D. Power
and Associates study ranked airports at Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul, home to Northwest's two
largest hubs, tied for second place among large domestic airports in overall customer satisfaction. Business travelers who subscribe to OAG print and electronic flight guides
rated nwa.com as the best airline Web site. Readers of TTG Asia and TTG China named Northwest
"Best North American airline."

TOP TIPS TICKET TACTICS
Book as far ahead as possible. The airlines sell only a certain number of seats at the lowest price, so
when these sell out, the price starts to climb. We found that the cheapest fares were generally available
about three months before departure. But some airlines do offer last-minute bargains on unsold seats.
Be flexible about your day of travel. Although Buzz and easyJet offer their cheapest tickets for departures
every day of the week, the others all have some restrictions on theirs, such as not being able to
depart on a Friday.
If you have internet access (off-course you have...reading this on the net!), spend some time surfing the
airlines sites. All the budget airlines we looked at have good online booking. It's simple to look at various
dates and departure times to get a good deal. At the time of writing this guide, we found
KLM UK giving
good value for money. Check it out! You can also register for e-mail special offers.
If you just fancy a weekend away, and don't really mind where you go, consider flying to a less
popular place - you're more likely to get a cheap flight to Hamburg than to Venice.
If you're willing to fly early morning or late evening, you're more likely to find cheap fare.
Don't forget mainstream airlines. BA and Air France do offer some competitive fares, particularly
if you book well ahead. Also, budget airlines don't offer discounts for children over two, so
the main airlines may be cheaper if you're travelling as a family.
